Kanthaswamy – Vikram’s disbelief!

As a preamble to the ensuing grand audio release, producers of Kanthaswamy convened a press brief at Sri Annai Abirami Theatre tonight at 8.00. The event witnessed attendance from Vikram, Shriya, Devi Sri Prasad, Susi Ganesan, lyricist Viveka, Sony BMG official Nandini and producer Kalaipuli Thanu.

Thanu, in his welcome speech, launched Kanthaswamy’s trailers. As a novel attempt and to pronounce the grandeur associated with the movie’s

production, five different trailers were screened. Each one, shot in super stylish angles with perfect finishing, is meant to tantalize the viewers and give them a sneak peek on what is in the anvil.

It was also made known that the audio will be released on April 15, 2009 for which a big scale event is planned. Dancers from Italy were invited to be part of the event who are already rehearsing for the same, it was revealed. The audio release will be telecast on Sun TV. Thanu mentioned that this audio release event will be a tribute to the film’s lead Vikram who has sung almost all the songs in the album like good old days when heroes also took the role of singers.

Kanthaswamy will also adopt around 30 villages in Tamil Nadu, as opposed to the earlier plan of 3. Many welfare schemes will be implemented in the villages and eligibility to become a part of this adoption scheme will be announced very soon, Thanu and director Susi Ganesan announced. Susi also showered admiration on Thanu mentioning that he was provided complete freedom during the movie’s production.

It is worth mentioning that Thanu completes his 25 years in cinema this 2009.

Vikram was all praises for Susi Ganesan and stated that he never imagined such a grand scale filming of Kanthaswamy. “When the script was narrated to me, I did not think Kanthaswamy would be such a mammoth project. But Susi has made the project truly humongous,” he said.

Kamal Haasan to play a Robot in Endhiran

In what is definitely the biggest development in Tamil cinema in recent times, there have been reports from very reliable sources that Kamal Haasan will be seen in a very important role in Shankar’s Endhiran starring Superstar Rajinikanth. Pinch yourself if you think this is a dream. The Kamal-Rajini combination is coming again after more than 20 years. The wait is finally over.

We all know that Endhiran has been in Shankar’s mind for a very long time now, nearly a decade to be precise. We can trace the beginnings of Endhiran (first called Robot) to Kamal itself. The first time we heard about Robot, it was said that Shankar planned to do the movie with Kamal Haasan in the lead. But, as destiny would have it, the movie got postponed. Years later, Robot got very close to moving out of Kollywood when Shahrukh Khan heard the

story from Shankar and expressed his interest. Hrithik Roshan too is said to have been in the loop for Robot. All this while, Shankar had planned the two roles in the movie (the robot and the scientist) to be done by different actors. But, it is thanks to Aamir Khan that Shankar started to think seriously about getting the same actor to do both the roles. Upon hearing the story, Aamir Khan had asked Shankar to let him do both the roles. After being very close to deciding upon making Robot in Hindi, Shankar finally returned to Kollywood, Robot was back in Tamil. By this time, almost every top actor in Bollywood and Kollywood knew the basic outline of Robot.

After the huge success of Sivaji, Shankar thought, ‘why not Superstar himself in the lead roles’? What many of us don’t know at this point is that Robot had been first narrated to Superstar, even before Kamal heard it for the first time. So, Robot was revived as Endhiran with Superstar in the lead; the movie had come back to the person to whom it was first narrated. Robot had come full circle to become Endhiran.

However, there is more to Endhiran than just what we heard till now. Rajinikanth plays two roles, the scientist and the robot. But the robot played by Superstar has a strong comic streak and is in fact a failed version of what was supposed to be a powerful Robot. The comic robot will be handling most of the comedy track in Endhiran and shooting for most of these portions is over. But, Rajinikanth the scientist actually manages to create a really powerful and intelligent robot according to his plans. This robot will be central to the movie, it will be a role of equal importance to that of Superstar’s.

The original plan was for Rajinikanth to do this role too. But seeing that the role had groundbreaking potential, Superstar made a suggestion to Shankar, ‘why not approach Kamal’? Shankar was circumspect, not sure whether Kamal would be interested. Superstar took it upon himself and approached Universal Star and more importantly his old buddy. There was no way Kamal could have turned down Rajinikanth. The dream team is back.

Kamal, currently involved in Thalaivan Irukkiran has asked for some time to wrap up the movie. Being a short term project, it is expected to wrap up soon and release in July. Kamal will shed his beard and join Superstar for Endhiran as soon as shooting is wrapped up for Thalaivan Irukkiran. Endhiran will definitely be the biggest festival Tamil cinema has seen.

When Shankar was contacted to confirm these reports, he said, ‘I don’t want to respond to such April Fool questions’.

He he .. Caught you!!! Wake up wise guy, Its April fools day!

Thanu, Devi Sri Prasad the music director of the film and Susi Ganesan are mastering the audio in a famous studio in Mumbai, to get perfection.

Sony Music the audio right holders will be promoting the audio aggressively.

And with Vikram rendering few songs for the film, it has become the most eagerly awaited audio launch.

Indira Vizha

Life is an exciting drama and all human beings are mere players in the greatest production. Human life allocates value to relationships. Apart from our closest circle of relatives and friends, we get to meet a lot of people in our lives. Among the diverse lot, some remain with us as our friends and due to certain differences, some become our foes. Indira Vizha deals with the consequence of such a tainted and embittered relationship.

Santosh (Sreekanth) is a cheerful young man who works as a programme executive for a local TV channel. Hard-working and full of vigour to grow in the competitive world of entertainment, Santosh is always on the look out for ideas to enrich his presentations. Santosh meets Savithri (Hemamalini), a bright young Law student through one of his innovative programmes titled 'Asadu No. 1'. Working in close association, both of them get to know each other and fall in love. Subsequently, their love gains acceptance from their respective families and soon, the wedding gets finalized. Meanwhile, the channel's owner suddenly decides to transfer the management responsibilities to his wife Kamini (Namitha). Kamini is pretty, wily and adventurous. Soon, she takes charge of the channel's activities and in connection with the same, meets Santosh. The meeting shocks Santosh and Kamini.

In the flashback that follows, Kamini and Santosh are shown as two bubbly youngsters madly in love with each other. When Santosh brings up the matter of an early marriage, Kamini does not concur. Fiercely ambitious, she prefers to settle down in her career well before familial responsibilities envelop her. Disappointed and confused and not knowing how to convince Kamini, Santosh drops his decision and soon, work takes him away from the city; her career distracts Kamini. Thus, both of them drift apart and away from each other.

Cut to the present: Kamini is excited to see Santosh in her domain. His nearness excites her and caught in the daze, she decides to pull Santosh into her web and seduce him. Even knowing that he is engaged and soon to be married, she flirts with him using her position and power and in one vulnerable moment, tries to make a big move on Santosh. Realizing that Kamini is trying to transform the friendship into an extra-marital affair, Santosh tries to wriggle out of her hold. But cunning and result-oriented Kamini chases him and when he continues to put her off, she uses a wicked plan against him. Kamini files a complaint against Santosh for attempting to rape her. The scandal wrecks Santosh's reputation as well as his understanding with Savithri; friends and relatives look down at him. Insulted and hurt, Santosh takes the matter to court. So many twists and turns follow; is Santosh finally able to prove his stand? Does he escape from crafty Kamini's traps? Does his marriage pass the endurance test? How does Savithri react to the whole episode?

Wait and watch Indira Vizha to know! This film is inspired by a Hindi film, which was inspired by an English film, which was inspired by...

Vetttaikkaran: Vijay’s get up and Rajamundry schedule

Vijay starrer Vettaikkaran’s first round of shooting, held in Rajamundry (Andhra Pradesh), has been completed. The crew will return to Chennai soon and get ready for the next round of shooting, which will most likely be held in AVM Studios.

In Rajamundry, the crew shot an introductory song for Vijay, in which he danced merrily with his son Sanjay. The song was shot in a grand temple set built by Milan in an obscure location on the outskirts of Rajamundry. Insiders reveal that the dance steps of Vijay in this song – choreographed by renowned dance master Shobi – look astounding! Following this song, the crew shot a few talkie portions involving Vijay and the film’s heroine Anushka, who plays a software engineer.

The biggest attraction is Vijay’s new get up for the movie! Though it has been kept a secret, it is understood that the actor will sport a new hairstyle. Usually, the star prefers short hair, slightly unruffled; but it looks like he will sport slightly longer hair, combed back slickly in a few scenes in Vettaikkaran! Similarly, the star is said to have paid great attention to his dress code in the film! Then there is news from director Babu Sivan himself – that Vijay will don four different get ups in the movie, though it is unclear if he will do that in a song or in the talkie portion! So it is sure that his fans will get to enjoy his new avatars in Vettaikkaran.

Vettaikkaran is Vijay’s 49th film and is produced by A.V.M.

PS: Kamal Haasan debuted as a child artist in A.V.M.’s Kalathur Kannamma years ago. Now, Vijay’s son Sanjay too is making a debut in A.V.M.’s movie! Can we expect him to grow up to be an actor of Kamal’s calibre?! Will the luck of coincidence shine on him too! We sure hope so!

Arundhathee

Set from the 1920s till the 21st century, Arundhathee stars pretty and curvaceous Anushka. The movie is directed by Kodi Ramakrishna. The dubbed version is brought to the Tamil audiences by N. Radha under the banner of Sri Thenandal Films.

For all who thought that the era of the sari-clad seductress was forgotten history, there's new hope in Anushka, who is redefining sensuality with her costumes of heavy silk saris, long plaits decorated with flowers, bangles upto her elbows and the whole look, rounded off with a big red bindi on her forehead.

Now, the story:

Arundhati (Anushka) arrives at her ancestral home in Gandharavakottai to meet her grandfather (Kaikala Satyanarayana) after her engagement with Rahul (Deepak). As she is the spitting image of her great grandmother, Jakkamma (Anushka), her grandfather, and his loyal maid Chandramma (Manorama) look upon her as the heiress to the lineage.

A flashback reveals Jakkamma fighting and vanquishing Pasupathi (Sonu Sood). His vengeful soul is imprisoned in his samadhi awaiting the day when he can be released so that he can take revenge. Jakkamma is blissfully unaware of all this and reigns her province peacefully.

Coming to the present, a couple on the way to visit Arundhati meet with an accident near the palace. The woman vanishes mysteriously and the man breaks open Pasupathi's samadhi as evil spirits possess him. Now Pasupathi is free to wreak his vengeance and comes after Arundhati, as she is the reincarnation of Jakkamma. Fakeer Anwar (Sayaji Shinde) an expert in the supernatural and paranormal world warns Arundhati to leave Gandharvakottai as soonas possible as he can sense an evil presence. Arundhati refuses to believe all this, but when circumstances bring her face to face with the evil spirit of Pasupathi, she is forced to fight him again.

Can Arundhati outwit the evil spirit now? Watch how graphics has lifted a revenge drama from the ordinary to the simply awe-inspiring in theatres.

Anushka is the surprise factor as Jakkamma. Rising to fame in glamorous roles, she is beautiful as a medieval princess in traditional attire. Her performance is so good as Jakkamma that it overpowers her portrayal as Arundhati She has proved that she's more than just a pretty face and can act very well. Sonu Sood is chillingly evil as Pasupathi and has given a stellar performance. Kaikala Satyanarayana returns to the screen after a long time and proves that his acting skills are as good as ever. Manorama is in her usual element,

The dialogues of the movie are well written and the lyrics also work well. The dubbing has been done so well that after a while you cease to forget that it is a Telugu film dubbed in Tamil. The Tamil version will surely do as well if not better than the Telugu version.

Kanchivaram

After making hard-hitting realistic Malayalam/ multilingual movies like Kaala Pani, Priyadarshan jumped on the hilarious remake bandwagon, making a number of popular commercial masala comedies. Now the same Priyadarshan has made a film straight from his heart - Kanchivaram, the story of a poor weaver who strives to fulfil a promise made to his daughter. The age-old saying that one who weaves a piece of cloth never enjoys ownership and authority over the same is demonstrated by the plight of Vengadam the protagonist in the film. The film is also set in the British era of the 1940s in the famous silk-weaving village of Kanchipuram in Madras Province.

In Hindu rituals, silk is surprisingly a symbol of sanctity and must be used during marriage and death ceremonies. (Surprisingly, because silk is made be boiling live silk pupae to extract the silk yarn.) Priyadarshan has spun a gripping human story with utmost perfection, precision and poignancy - using the lives of the silk-weavers as his weft and warp.

Vengadam (Prakashraj) is a traditional master weaver, who, for a pittance, weaves the most intricate and delicate silk saris for the merchants who hire him. Ever as a child, he dreamt of draping his bride in silk sari but could not make his dream come true. When Vengadam's wife Annam (Shreya Reddy) gives birth to a daughter, he pledges before the village that his daughter will wear a silk sari on her wedding day. But how will the poor weaver, mired in poverty and near-starvation, fulfill this pledge? He starts stealing single strands of silk yarn every day from his workplace, brings them home and starts weaving his dream sari in his own backyard. His wife dies, his daughter Thamarai (Shammu) grows up into a beautiful girl, and the sari becomes longer and longer. Vengadam also takes part in hunger strikes, makes friends with a communist writer, gets influenced by his talks, and participates in demonstrations against the merchants who hold the weavers in thrall.

An emotional story is told with the historical and political changes as its backdrop and its authentic mood is maintained throughout the film. It is indeed a proud badge of distinction and honour for director Priyadarshan. With Akashvani's mourning for Gandhiji's death broadcast in the background, the film begins as a flashback. The whole village surrounds and looks in awe at the first motor car that enters the destination. From there begins Vengadam's story. Then the film shuttles back and forth in time, much like the shuttle in a hand loom.

1977 Movie Preview

Starring: Sarath Kumar, Namitha, Sandhya Shetty, Farzana
Direction: Dinesh Kumar
Music: Vidyasagar
Production: RSK Pictures

This week it is Namitha again at the box office and that makes it the third time within a span of one month. This time around, the lady is paired with Sarath Kumar. The movie is Sarath Kumar’s magnum opus 1977. Double roles are not new to this actor. He has perhaps donned the most number of double roles in the film industry and his specialty is father-son duos. This formula has given him many a hit over his long career and Sarath is back at it

again when his hold at the box office seems to be waning a bit.

1977 will not be any routine double act by Sarath Kumar; we will be seeing him in 6 different get ups, with three different heroines with the story taking us from India to Malaysia over two eras. In fact, 1977 might be one of the most expensive films in Sarath Kumar’s career. Though much has not been revealed about its storyline, we know for sure that the movie will be a thriller with plenty of high adrenalin pumping actions and liberal doses of glamour provided by the lead ladies.

The highlight of the film includes the introduction song shot with more than 500 junior artistes and dancers, the power-packed gun fight between Sarath Kumar and 40 baddies, a chase sequence that features some of Malaysia’s best known stunt artistes, a climax that has over 100 Malaysian police vehicles and personnel that was shot for 11 consecutive day and nights close to the Petronas twin towers. 1977 also includes a song that was shot lavishly on a set that was erected at a cost of Rs. 40 lakhs.

Literally, the producer has not spared any expense to make the film a rich and engaging fare. Mumbai-based model Sandhya Shetty makes her debut and is set to add to the oomph factor. Farzana too will make her presence felt, not to forget Namitha who has an introduction scene devoted to her. Sarath Kumar has made it clear that the film is purely for entertainment purpose and hence it has no political overtones. The movie is a bilingual with a simultaneous Telugu release.

Scripted and directed by Dinesh Kumar with music by Vidyasagar, 1977 looks good to end Sarath Kumar’s hit drought at the box office. We will know this Friday.

Engal Aasan Movie Preview

Behindwoods review board

Starring: Vijayakanth, Vikranth, Seril Brindo, Suja
Direction: Kalaimani
Music: Sabesh Murali
Production: Thangaraj

Captain is back. It's been quite a while since we saw him on screen which is quite understandable because he is a man of many other commitments too. However, Engal Aasan is ready for release, a trifle delayed though.

But it looks as though the delay might end up helping the movie. Engal Aasan is a story based on a big economic scandal where fake documents are fabricated to show issue of loans to people while the money is siphoned off by others. The scam is to the tune of a few crores. Well, if

this reminds you of India’s biggest corporate fraud then don't think that Engal Aasan was made with that in mind.

Vijayakanth plays a bank officer who takes charge in a village office and after a few days starts noticing huge discrepancies in the way funds have been dispensed as loans. He wants to get to the root of the scam. But, the bad elements destroy all evidence that he has and even put him on the wrong side of the management. But Captain does not accept defeat and that is what the movie is all about.

Vikranth (Vijay's cousin), Sheryl Printo and Akshaya are also part of the cast. The film has been directed by Kalaimani with camera handled by A. Venkatesh and Sabesh Murali scoring the music.

Adada Enna Azhagu Movie Preview

Behindwoods review board

Starring: Jai Akash, Nicole, Ashish Vidyarthi, Karunaas, Raguvaran, Reka, Aishwarya
Direction: T.M. Jayamurugan
Music: TM Jaimurugan
Production: Tiruppur M.V. Ramaswamy

Jai Akash has been missing from the scene for quite a while now. One might be forgiven for thinking that he had done the disappearing act. But, he is back with a release. Adada Enna Azhagu is set to hit theaters this Friday. Featuring Jai Akash and debutante Nicole in the lead, the title suggests that the movie will be a love story. While not totally disagreeing with the assumption, director

T.M. Jayamurugan adds that the movie is much more than just an ordinary love story.

The lead character played by Jai Akash is one who holds very lofty principles in life. He follows Periyar’s doctrine of philosophy wherein any wealth accumulated beyond one’s basic needs should be given away to the less privileged. The director has also quoted an incident from the life of the revolutionary communist leader Stalin who did not hesitate to sacrifice his son’s life for the sake of his country; the hero of the film will exhibit such high levels of patriotism.

With such credentials, the hero ought to be the ‘perfect man’ and a story involving such a character cannot be just a love story. The director said that the movie shows how two people with very similar tastes in music meet each other and become friends which later blossoms into love. Their love meets with zero resistance from all sides and all seems to be well and rosy until a misunderstanding threatens to do them apart.

Adada Enna Azhagu has been produced by Tiruppur M.V. Ramaswamy on behalf of Alipiri Movies. Music for the film has been scored by the director himself who has also taken care of the lyrics. Adada Enna Azhagu raises hopes of a good love story with social consciousness.

Yavarum Nalam - Review

Yavarum Nalam - Review

Does fear have a new face? Yes it does... it is the theatre that is screening Yavarum Nalam and I mean that in the positive sense.

The thriller-horror genre in Indian movies have not been unexploited. The scary fare that is usually fed to us is of bad quality with even worse storyline. Vikram K Kumar has tried something different with Yavarum Nalam. The premise may see too childish to some, but the treatment of the subject is extremely interesting and I must say scary too!

Now talking about the plot, it revolves around a family of eight members, Manohar (Madhavan), his mother (Saranya), his wife Priya (Neetu Chandra), his elder brother (Sanjaih Bokaria), sister-in-law (Ameetha), his nephew and niece and younger sister. This happy close knit family moves into a new apartment 13B on the thirteenth floor of a newly constructed building. Like any family, the women in this household are TV soap fanatics and their latest obsession is a serial called Yavarum Nalam.

Manohar, a civil engineer by profession, is very happy to have moved to this new house and lots of good things happen in the family, his brother gets promoted, his sister passes her college exams, his wife gets pregnant. But he is also surrounded by some strange happenings and an unknown fear...a fear that changes his life. What is that fear... well you have to go and watch the film.

Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu - Review

Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu - Review

Quite a while ago, sports-based films created news and made money. Though inspired by many similar blockbusters, Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu is impressive in a refreshingly original way. Debut director Suseendran has made the film with a well-prepared storyboard. His clarity in terms of approach and presentation of the same are evident.

Marimuthu (Vishnu) is a nondescript resident in a remote village. Mari's only interest is in the local sport kabaddi. Whenever he finds time, Mari keeps playing the game, enacting the roles of the different players in the participating teams and trying to incorporate some smart winning tricks with his own style. His friends form a group named Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu and participate in contests, but Mari never gets a chance to play as a representative of the group; therefore his passion and skill for the game do not get revealed.

When he accompanies the team to a nearby village for a contest, Mari gets a chance to substitute one of the players in the team. Despite Mari's efforts, their team loses the game. But eminent kabaddi coach Sowdamuthu (Kishore) witnesses the game, recognizes Marimuthu's skill, and compliments him. With that strong feeling of recognition under his belt, Mari meets a sweet girl (Charanya Mohan) at the temple carnival. Even though both of them do not get a chance to move closer, an inexplicable feeling of affection and affinity sparks off between them. Mari gifts his locket to the girl as a memorable memento, a proof of his love.

Perumal - Review

Perumal - Review

What do you get when you mix, action, comedy, romance and glamour - obviously, a movie. But for a good movie, you need a strong storyline supported by great performances. So does Perumal get full marks? Well it just manages to scrape through.

Perumal (Sundar C.) works for a transportation company. His job takes him to Andhra Pradesh, where he meets Dr. Alamu (Meenakshi), a damsel in distress. She is witness to a crime and the criminals are chasing her, out to eliminate her. She meets Perumal, who promises to help and protect her. He brings her to Chennai and uses his wits and strength to fight the rowdies and outwit them. So what is the terrible crime she has witnessed? Read on. The main villain is Venkaiah (Kota Srinivas Rao), a don of Cudappah district in Andhra Pradesh. His son Bhadra (played by newcomer Sudhir) is a knife-wielding criminal who has no respect for the law (not surprising!). He assists his father in the business of manufacturing fake medicines, thus resulting in the death of several innocent children. Alamu, who works in a government hospital, reports this issue to the hospital chief but Bhadra kills him. Alamu records the murder on her mobile phone camera (the advantages of technology!). But Bhadra sees her and along with his men, chases her. She then meets Perumal, who promises to help her in her fight for justice.

Kudiyarasu - Review

Kudiyarasu
portrays the efforts and travails of a dedicated journalist who tries to expose the fraudulent activities of a powerful minister. The whole film talks about his experiences during a single day.

Daring investigative journalist Kannan (Vigneshwaran) works for a leading mainstream daily named Kudiyarasu. Straightforward, dedicated and good-natured, Kannan is passionate about his job. Deciding to expose him, Kannan starts collecting evidence for his article. Through some of his effective contacts and influence, the minister (predictably) comes to know about Kannan's involvement in the issue and begins to harass him to force his silence. However, he is extra- smart and extra-strong, Kannan fights against the rowdy attacks and all other hindrances - and vanquishes them. But the CD which contains the evidence against the minister gets misplaced and falls into the hands of a young girl (Neeba). The rowdies find the girl, seize the evidence from her and make her a scapegoat.

TN 07 AL 4777 - Review

TN 07 AL 4777 - Review

TN 07 AL 4777
from the GV Films banner is a realistic film. It narrates the story of two men, how they cross each other's paths, and the resultant events that occur in their lives in a day.

Taxi driver Mani (Pasupathy) ekes out his existence by plying his taxi and maintains his family comprising his lovely and lovable wife Subha (Simran) and a son, following the same dull routine daily. Since Mani's income is just sufficient to support his family and make ends meet, he is not satisfied or mindful of his duties. Every day, not bothering to care for the needs of his wife and son, he only strives to keep himself happy, and returns home every evening with empty pockets and fully drunk. In addition to being selfish, Mani is also a liar. Feeling ashamed and inferior that he has to ply a cab (even that is not his own taxi) for a living, Mani tells his wife that he is an LIC agent. He does not take even the slightest effort to understand her true feelings.

On the other hand, Gautham Iyengar (Ajmal Ameer), only son of business tycoon Ramanujam Iyengar who created and owned the TAS group of companies, is not cast in his father's mould of a hard-working canny businessman. Boundless wealth, limitless freedom and a carefree lifestyle have spoilt him, making him a feckless playboy and spendthrift. When Ramanujam Iyengar dies, the son finds that in view of Gautham's irresponsible nature and behaviour, the thoughtful father has left his entire wealth in the custody of his close friend Venkatramani. His father's decision upsets Gautham and he looks for ways to challenge and get the said last will and testament revoked. To establish his ownership and to cancel Venkatramani's control over his father's property, Gautham takes the help of his girl friend Pooja (Meenakshi) and tries to retrieve another equally significant document from his safe deposit locker in the bank.

Laadam - Review

Laadam - Review

It's been quite a while since we've seen a gangster movie in Tamil with some standards that match Ram Gopal Varma's movies. The last movie we saw was Selvaragahavan's Pudhupettai. Laadam is one such, written and directed by Prabhu Solomon, who has given the hits Kokki and Lee. Laadam is also being made in Telugu as 16 Days. The movie talks about a situation where an educated job seeker gets himself in a tight corner and is caught between the rivalry of gangsters.

Who's In It?

Aravindan makes his debut as the protagonist with Charmi, one of Telugu cinema's popular heroines. The movie also introduces Dheeraj, producer of Prabhu's Kokki as the villain. Kota Seenivasa Rao, V. Jayaprakash and Chitti Babu are also part of the cast. Prabhu Solomon makes a cameo appearance as a police officer.

What's It About?

Kunjipatham (Aravindhan), an orphan, comes to the city in search of a job and stays in a friend's apartment. Meanwhile, leading gangster Pavadai (Kota Seenivasa Rao) finds his son murdered by his arch rival Vembuli's (V. Jayaprakash) men. He then plans to take revenge by killing Vembuli's son Adithya (Dheeraj) on or before the 16th day of his son's death.

Siva Manasula Sakthi Movie Review

Siva Manasula Sakthi - youthful entertainer

Vikatan talkies' Siva Manasula Sakthi is a youthful entertainer. Dealing with the mutation of friendship that buds and blossoms into love, the film has captured some enjoyable niceties in the process.

Siva (Jiiva) is a jolly good fellow. After failing twice in his Plus 2 exams, Siva takes up a job as a delivery boy in a courier company. While all his days are spent travelling around the city delivering mails, Siva happily spends his nights in his friends' company. Together, they drink, smoke, joke and make merry. Siva's mother (Urvasi) is happy with the meagre amounts he gives her to run the family. She always pampers her only son and enjoys life's small pleasures along with him. In fact, Siva's only sister Viji knows him better than their mom. One day, while travelling out of the city, Siva meets Sakthi (Anuya). 1977 Movie Review

What’s the story:
It’s pretty interesting, the way the movie opens up.

It is a fishing village somewhere in Tamilnadu and the day’s catch has just come in, ready to be sorted out for the markets.Contrary to reality, there is much harmony and professional courtesy amongst the fisherfolk and instead of separate piles of catch from each of the fishing charters, all of it lands in consolidated heaps. The reason? The villagers have a system where no one goes unpaid because of a poor catch. Everyone has done their job equally and no one goes hungry.

Enter villain. Threats. Bluff and bluster. Some violence. And amidst it all, a lone figure on a boat out at sea, peaceful and pensive. He returns, even as the baddies look like they are going to disrupt the delicate harmony of the community.

…We won’t give you the details, but the way the villains are quelled is quite interesting!

That, actually, is the USP of 1977 in a nutshell. Formula fare in terms of storyline, glamour and the end to it all, but at every stage, just as you think it’s just another masala movie, it endeavours to take a different tack.
