THOONGA NAGARAM BEGINS

Producer Dayanidhi Azhagiri’s Thamizh Padam hit the marquee yesterday (January 29th) and he has already announced his next venture Thoonga Nagaram. Incidentally, the film went on floors on Azhagiri’s birthday, January 29. The MP attended the movie launch at the Thamukkam Grounds in Madurai.

The film is directed by debut director Gaurav, who had apprenticed under ace director K S Ravi Kumar. Thoonga Nagaram, which is set in Madurai, has ‘Pasanga’ Vimal, ‘Nadodigal’ Bharani and ‘Renigunta Nishanth’ in important roles.

Director Gaurav also dons the greasepaint in his debut vehicle. Anjali plays the female lead in Thoonga Nagaram.

The Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's wife Dayalu Ammal lit the traditional lamp, while Azhagiri's wife Gandhi Azhagiri gave the first clap. Azhagiri wielded the camera to mark the beginning. Azhagiri’s daughters Kayalvizhi and Selvi were also present.

Vijay Ulaganathan, an erstwhile associate to KV Anand is the cinematographer. Sundar C Babu has scored the music. Editing is by Suresh and Santhanam is in-charge of the art direction.

Vivek Rathnavelu is the co-producer of Thoonga Nagaram. Production supervision is by K Sundararaj and the executive producer is Sushanth.

Bala’s new Tamil heroine "Janani"

National award winning director Bala is starting the shoot of his next film called Avan Evan with Vishal and Arya. The film has a new heroine a Tamil girl Janani Iyer.

Janani said: “I am a Chennai girl born and brought up here and studied at D AV School at Gopalapuram. Then I did my computer science course from Savitha Engineering College. Avan Evan is my first film. But I have done modelling for over 150 ads including national and regional ones.

Jananini always wanted to be an actor as it is her passion in life. So how did she land this film with Bala? “Director Vijay (Poi Solla Porum) is like my guru and he told me that Bala sir was looking for a new face for his film. So I tried my luck by going for his audition. Bala sir after the audition told me that I fit into the role.”

Janani is not allowed as per her contract to speak to the media about her role or the film. Anyway, she has so far made the right moves, and has the potential to be the first Tamil girl after Trisha to make it big in Kollywood.

Asal gets a clean U/A

Ajith Kumar’s Asal will now have a pre-poned release on February 5 as the producers have confirmed the new release dates. The members of Censor Board watched the film recently and have passed it with ‘U/A’ certificate for its ‘violence quotients’. It seems that the members have insisted Saran to replace few shots so as to obtain clean ‘U’ certificate.

Nonetheless, it doesn’t seem to be a possibility as Saran has no intentions of replacing those shots. Earlier, plans were made to release the film on Valentine’s Day weekend (Feb 12), but due to random releases in the following weeks, the producers have preponed the release.

Asal brings back Ajith Kumar and director Saran for the fourth time followed by grand successes of Kadhal Mannan, Amarkalam and Attagasam. Musical score by Bharadwaj has already become sensational hits in audio markets. Sameera Reddy and Bhavana are the heroines in the flick.

Yaavarum Kelir Start Rolling

It’s final now: Kamal Haasan has officially confirmed the title of his next film ‘Yaavarum Kelir’. As known earlier, the film is directed by K.S Ravikumar and is produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin of Red Giant Movies.

Finalizing the female lead happened to be a great turmoil for the biggies and now they’ve finalized Trisha for the project. Kamal Haasan’s elder daughter Shruthi Haasan scores music for the film and it’s completely comedy-entertainer with a pragmatic theme in the backdrop.

Kamal Haasan’s spokesperson has mentioned that the film will start rolling from April and will hit screens for Diwali without any delay.

Wow! That’s really tremendous to hear that our very own Kamal Haasan will bring us another quickie within short span of time.

Cheran and Bhagyaraj launch Kurunila Mannan Audio

Paruthiveeran and Subramaniapuram have already strike gold at the box-office so now many filmmakers are gradually shifting their focus to films based on village backgrounds.

Upcoming film Kurunila Mannan follows the lead and stars newcomers Pradeep and Vidhya in lead roles.

The film is produced by Nisha Kennedi of KRK Film Circuit and is directed by debutant Murugaiah (once an associate of director Tamizh Vaanan).

Producer Nisha informs that the complete film has been shot across Kaaraikudi and its surrounding villages in a short span of just 39 days.

Filmmakers Cheran and Bhagyaraj released the film's audio at Sathyam Cinemas. Addressing the special invitees, director Cheran said, "These days, films with star value are supported by theatre exhibitors and distributors. I request audience to extend their aid for films with newcomers as well. Many good films are given a miss by the viewers as they don't boast of a big star cast, but the scenario should change now."

Rahman to compose for Tamil Conference

The maestro AR Rahman, will compose the theme song for the World Classic Tamil Conference (WCTC) to be held in Coimbatore in June.

Rahman met Chief Minister M Karunanidhi who had penned the lyrics for the song and discussed the tune for the song. In chaste Tamil Karunanidhi has been able to capture the essence and growth of Tamil literature over two millennia, which has survived the vicissitudes of time.

On hearing that Rahman was leaving for Los Angeles to take part in the Grammy Awards, Karunanidhi wished him all the best and said: “I am hopeful that you would bring home Grammy award too.”

Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin, Karunanidhi’s wife Rajathi Ammal, daughter and Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi and Sun Television Network chairman Kalanithi Maran were present during the meeting

Goa is an upcoming 2010 Tamil Teen romantic comedy film story is written and directed by Venkat Prabhu. The film was released on 29 January 2010. The movie lead roles are Jai, Vaibhav, Premji Amaran and Aravind Akash. The music scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Goa Movie Details:

Direction & Story: Venkat Prabhu
Production: Soundarya Rajinikanth
Starring: Jai, Vaibhav Reddy, Premji Amaran, Aravind Akash,
Sneha, Piaa Bajpai, Melanie Marie Jobstreibitzer, Sampath Raj
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Editing: K. L. Praveen, N. B. Srikanth

The Goa Movie Story: [According to Wikipedia] The film follows the journey of three young men, Ramarajan, Vinayagam and Saamikannu, who flee from their remote, conservative village to escape their overly strict families and travel to the international tourist-destination Goa, where they enjoy themselves, experiencing things they have never had a chance to.

Sadagopan Ramesh does not know how to kiss a girl

Ex cricketer Sadagopan Ramesh is into cinema through Santosh Subramaniam and now has elevated as hero through Patta Patti.

Madhu Shalini is pairing with him.

Even though the movie is about a pair belonging to Madurai's country side, the director thought of adding some masala to the movie. So he made the story, that will have Sadagopan kissing Madhu.

Sadagoppan took 12 shots to make the director satisfied (still not the babe) as he does not know how to kiss a girl.

Ajith is the co-director of Asal

Sivaji Productions Saran directed action adventure Aasal featuring Ajith, Sameera Reddy and Bhavana has been given a ‘UA’ certificate by the censors.

The makers of the film were trying for a ‘U’ certificate to get the family audiences, but ended up getting a ‘UA’ which is good enough as it is an action film.

The censors offered Saran, a ‘U’ if he trims the violent action scenes, but he preferred to retain the ‘UA’ as he did not want to dilute the full impact of the action film. In Chennai city the film is releasing in 11 screens.

Meanwhile today’s (Jan 29) papers have come out with ads of Aasal release date as February 5. For the first time ever a superstar has been officially recognized as the “man behind the film”.

Remember in Tamil superstar films the contribution of the lead actors whether it is Rajinikanth, Kamal or Vijay is never acknowledged though they contribute largely with their creative inputs to the making of the film.

We salute Ajith, and producers for boldly advertising the stars involvement and contribution to the film. The ads of Aasal clearly say Ajith Kumar is the co-director and is also credited with “story, screenplay and dialogues” along with Saran and Yuhisethu.

Tamil Padam Preview

This is perhaps India’s first genuine spoof (if you have not seen Hindi movies like Bollywood Calling), or at least South India’s first genuine spoof. Yes, it is a funny and ‘take a dig’ perspective at everything that has been stereotypical about Tamil cinema over the years. You would not need much elaboration as the trailers have already been making the rounds on TV. Every keen observer and fan of Tamil cinema will be able to pick out scenes from their favorite movies, which have been recreated here with more than a touch of sarcasm that tickles your funny bone. If you have loved watching ‘Lollu Sabha’ over the years, then there is every chance that you are going to love this one too.

Quite appropriately the man playing the lead in Thamizh Padam is RJ Siva who has made a career out of making jibes at all kinds of things and it would be a walk in the park for him to do funny imitations of the most memorable (and also the most predictable) scenes in Tamil cinema through the years. The ‘Sivaji’ scene where he can be seen signing papers while wielding a pen in both hands is already making a lot of people chuckle, so is the recreation of the ‘Anbuchelvan IPS’ scene where he is shown lying on the bank of a river, unable to move,

because he has just finished a bottle of liquor (not because he was shot down by Pandiya).

Of course, the funnier part is that he is playing a college student and his college mates are… Manobala, MS Bhaskar and Vennira Adai Murthy. It is almost as if you can sense the humor in the air when these three names are mentioned together, that too as college students. And, in keeping with the most honored tradition of Tamil cinema, a model from Bombay, Disha Pandey, has played the heroine in Thamizh Padam.

For a spoof, the film has an excellent technician, Nirav Shah, handling the camera. The entire film has been shot on the Red One camera. Kannan has scored the music and there is a song which reminds us of all the famous gibberish sounds that have become hits. The man at the helm of this spoof, Amuthan, was an ad film maker before he made the jump to the big screen with Thamizh Padam. With a funny take on all that is over the top and predictable in Tamil cinema, Thamizh Padam should be an enjoyable experience for all those who love a good laugh even if it is at the expense of your favorite star. Producer Dayanidhi Azhagiri should also be commended for taking on a whole new genre of cinema. Let Thamizh Padam be a successful start to the genre of spoofs in Tamil cinema.

Kamal Haasan and Trisha for Yavarum Kelir

Kamal Hassan and director KS Ravikumar is coming together in producer Udayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giants new film titled Yavarum Kaelir.

The shoot of the film will start in April first week likely in US and it will be a quickie which will release for Deepavali 2010.

Trisha is going to play heroine in this film and she has given bulk dates.

Udayanidhi is also said to be playing a pivotal role in the film which is rumoured to be a rip roaring comedy.

Rambha Engagement Today

The one time sizzler of south cinema, Rambha is getting engaged to the Canada based tycoon Indran of Tamil origin.

Indran was smitten by the actress and was roped in as the brand ambassador of Magic Woods, a company run by Indiran.

Avatar Break Titanic Record

Sci-fi epic Avatar was set to break a record of Titanic proportions Monday. The 3-D movie extravaganza was on the brink of passing the 1.843 billion dollars earned by Titanic at the box office in 1997 to become the highest grossing film of all time, according to figures released by Twentieth Century Fox.

Avatar had earned 1.841 billion dollars by the close of the weekend, enabling it to top the record books for box office takings outside the US. Assuming that it breaks the global record Monday, it will have taken just six weeks to surpass a record that it took Titanic some 10 months to achieve.

The milestone will also cement the place of James Cameron, who produced, directed and wrote both Titanic and Avatar, as the most successful moviemaker of all time.

Though Titanic holds the box office record and boasts a record 11 Oscar wins, Avatar looks unlikely to challenge the Oscar milestone. The movie, which uses modern 3-D technology, has notched awards for for best drama and best director at the Golden Globe awards.

But it has performed poorly at other awards ceremonies, most notably at the Screen Actors Guild and Producers Guild awards this weekend where it was shut out of major honours by voting members who form a key constituency in Oscar voting.

Asal confirmed Release on Feb 5

Sivaji Productions Ajith action adventure Aasal has now been confirmed as a February 5 release.

The 100 seconds trailer of the film looks slick and the producer of the film Ram Kumar told Yes we have confirmed Aasal on February 5. We will be officially announcing the date once the film gets censored later in the week.

A section in the trade was hoping that Aasal would release on February 12, so that the Pongal releases and January 29th releases like Goa, Tamil Padam and Jaggubhai gets a decent run.

Now most of these films especially in smaller stations will be terminated after a week or shifted to a smaller screens, as Ajith’s Aasal will be every exhibitors first choice. There is acute theatre shortage as the release boom in Tamil continues, with January alone having a dozen releases!
