ANGADI THERU REVIEW, ANGADI THERU MOVIE REVIEW
After recording the journey of a loser with Veyil and reaching sunny heights, Vasantha Balan takes a bow with Angadi Theru produced by Ayngaran International. This film is long overdue and the expectation levels had almost reached a crescendo thanks to Balan’s previous repertoire. And the Cannes fame director has not let down his audience in Angadi Theru.
Angadi Theru as the name indicates is all about a market or a bazaar street which is a constant in almost all the cities and towns. This time around Vasantha Balan has chosen to travel in one of such busy streets in Chennai, the Ranganathan Street and document the lives of people there focusing more on a famous shop called Senthil Murugan Stores. It is not only the noise and goods of a market place but he takes us through the lives of a thousand souls as well.
Jothilingam alias Lingu (newcomer Mahesh),
though a bright boy is forced to fend for his mom and sisters after the untimely demise of his dad. He gets recruited to go to Chennai to work for the famous Senthil Murugan Stores along with close buddy Marimuthu. As expected life is not rosy in Chennai and they are thrown into a dismal work ambience. From the dorm they stay to the food that they are given, everything is in a deplorable condition and a completely inhuman boss makes their life all the more miserable. In the middle of all this, Kani (Anjali), a senior in the stores and Lingu get affable after initial unfriendly vibes and love eventually blossoms amidst a cruel atmosphere. Angadi Theru is about how these two survive in a concentration camp like condition and what happens when fate perpetually smiles very cruelly at them.
Kudos to Vasantha Balan for portraying the happenings in a big store with brutal candor! Violation of human right seems to be the order of every day in the stores where thousands shop daily. The work culture (is there one?) is extremely pitiable and our heart goes out to the workers. There is also sexual molestation as a punishment exploiting the economic conditions of the workers. Amidst all this, Balan attempts to show survival instincts which are extremely vital in such a setting. It breaks our hearts when the workers are not even allowed to take rest room sojourns. Even the basic expression of love becomes such a feared one which leads to the suicide of a girl. Nevertheless the director has also conveyed an optimistic message that life will continue to flow amidst any circumstance.
Angadi Theru is an eye opener to all those who are on the rosier side of life. Jayamohan’s razor-sharp dialogues lend the right kind of support to the narration. The dialogues spoken by the road side beggar who marries a dwarf and delivers a dwarf baby is one such instance. Vasantha Balan is successful when our heart jumps with joy with the bashing the Hitler like supervisor Karungali receives from the hero. Director Venkatesh who has portrayed this role is sure to be at the receiving end when he gets out.
Newcomer Mahesh needs to work on his emoting skills a lot. He appears very stiff in many scenes. Commendable performance from Anjali (Katradhu Thamizh fame)! The girl looks every bit her role with an impressive gamut of emotions running through her face. Sure to watch out for! Newcomers form majority of the cast and are satisfactory. Sneha lights up the happenings in a small cameo
Music is scored by Vijay Antony and G V Prakashkumar. Lyrics of Naa Muthukumar render the right feel especially in Aval appadi onrum azhagillai number. Kadaigalai Pesum is a smooth melody tuned in by G V Prakash which showcases Chennai at night. Richard M Nathan who had worked with K V Anand makes his debut as cinematographer and has worked in tandem with the mood of the film.
Director seems to have slackened his grip on the narration in the initial part of post-interval session. The background score and music could have rendered some more support to Angadi Theru. Although the film is a realistic recording of life in a market place, the proceeding becomes a tad too heavy and a craving for some pleasant scene surfaces.
The next time when we visit a market place, we are sure to stop for a while and muse perhaps a few moments about the life of a seller who has sold us a few mundane items. Thanks to Vasantha Balan!

Asin replaces Deepika Padukone in Salman Khan film
Has Asin replaced Deepika Padukone in writer director Anees Bazmi’s next film with Salman Khan? Bollywood is abuzz that Asin has at last signed her third film by replacing Deepika in the film.
The grapevine has it that Salman called up the producers T Series and director Bazmee to replace Deepika with Asin. Salman and Asin are said to have become close during the making of their London Dreams, which however bombed.
A source also said that Salman is trying to woo back Asin to Bollywood as she is all set to go back to Kollywood and act opposite Vijay in the Tamil remake of Siddique’s Malayalam Bodyguard from April 1.

Kollywood’s most handsome actor Ajith Kumar who will turn 40 on May 1, is all set to join other racers at the FIA Formula Two Championship at Silverstone in England. His entry into F2 was confirmed on Wednesday.
Ajith in a press statement has said: “I’ am very excited about getting into competitive racing again and looking forward to the first race next month. I did some testing in Malaysia recently and am looking forward to more practice in racing circuits in UK like Snetterton and Silverstone before the event kicks off on April 16 at Silverstone.”
The reason for the actor taking to motor racing in a big way is said to be because- “I want to take motor racing in this country to the common man. Right now, it is still a niche sport largely popular in the urban areas.”
Meanwhile, Kollywood is not very happy that Ajith is turning his attention to motor sports after the lukewarm response to his last release Aasal at the box-office. There is no new development on his next film to be directed by Gautham Menon, which now looks like will start only by the end of the year.

Udhayanidhi celebrated Aadhavan 100 days
Producer Udhayanidhi Stalin held the 100 days celebration of Aadhavan at Park Sheraton Hotel in Chennai on March 23 night.
Kamal Haasan was the chief guest at the function and KS Ravikuar, Uday, Suriya, Nayanthara, Saroja Devi, Vadivelu, Harris Jayaraj and Ramanarayanan were on the dais. All the artists, technicians, and office bearers of the unit were honoured on stage and mementos were given away.
Everyone praised Udhayanidhi Stalin for being a wonderful producer and directors like Lingusamy and Murugadoss gave speeches. Sriya was hailed as the Waris (heir) to Kamal Hassan by Parthipan. As a noble gesture Uday gave away Rs One Lakh each to charitable organisations like Jeevan Velicham, Nambikkai, People AIDS initiative, St. Annes and T Lokesh, an engineering student.
Kamal, in his speech said that there is no special quality that Sivakumar has not taught his son Suriya. He said: “One thing I would like to emphasize is to put your recent success behind you. This is the most essential mantra”.
Nayanthara looked elegant and simple sans any make up at the function. Remember that this is the first function of Aadhavan that the actress took part since the film was launched. Says the ace director: “We wanted a lot of reaction scenes of hero Mahesh and heroine Anjali on the streets as the story demands it. Endhiran to release for Diwali
Well, this may worry the ardent buffs of superstar Rajnikanth as his long awaited film will have a delayed release by end of 2010. Endhiran started rolling before couple of years as Ayngaran International and Eros Productions decided to produce at a cost Rs.125Crs. Later, as the budget crossed above-the-line, these producers couldn’t afford to continue and gradually handed the project to Sun Pictures.
And now, it’s revealed that Shankar hasn’t yet completed shooting of this film as there dozen of scenes to be completed. On pars, he has decided to 3D effects for half of this film so as to cut down the risk factors involved with piracies. It seems that the entire post production team has to work on 250 special effects, which will approximately take 4 months to complete.

Vijay join Siddique film on April 1
Ilayathalapathy Vijay will start the first schedule of director Siddique’s Bodyguard remake in Chennai from Thursday, April 1.
The only common factor between the Malayalam and Tamil version is writer and director Siddique, who has made some minor changes in the Tamil version to suit Vijay’s image.
Vijay will play the role done by Dileep while Asin is going to do Nayanthara’s role in the Malayalam original.
Thyagarajan who had a pivotal role has been replaced by Raj Kiran in the Tamil version.
National award winning music director Ouseappachan’s replacement for the Tamil version is Vidyasagar. S Kumar who was the cameraman in the Malayalam version has been replaced by ace cameraman and Vijay’s current favourite Ekambaram, who has also done the actor’s Sura.
Vadivelu gives Vijay company in the comedy dapartment along with MS Bhaskar.

Here, we a hint for you to take a look over visuals. Almost all the frames have been slanted towards the side of Anushka to project Surya taller than her. According to the sources in shooting spots, Surya would actually wear high heels prior to Anushka’s arrival so as to look naturally taller.
Apart from Prakash Raj and Vivek, actors Manorama, Radha Ravi, Nasser, Sumithra, Janaki Subash, Yuvarani, Delhi Kumar, Nizhalgal Ravi, Adhitya, Ajay Rathnam, Besant Ravi, Crane Manohar, Bose Venkat, Nanda Saravanan, Manobala, Paandu, Thyagu and others have performed prominent roles.
This is a very special film for Surya as it’s his 25th flick in career and is produced by his uncle Gnyanavel Rajan. It’s worth mentioning that it’s Hari’s 10th film with almost all his films happening to be a success in box office.
But it’s really makes us wonder how come Devi Sri Prasad has been roped for scoring music. He has been loosing out more offers in Tamil and Telugu film industry due to his inconsistency to deliver good music. V.T. Vijayan handles editing with Priyan cranking the camera and K. Kathir is the art director.
The film’s shooting commenced in Chennai and had the following schedules in Nellai, Kuttralam, Thenkasi, Amba Samuthiram, Tuticorin, Thiruchendur, Karaikudi and other surrounding places. Apart from these locales, couple of songs choreographed by Brindha was shot in Dubai.
The film’s audio is reported to be launched by this month and film will hit screens by April. It’s confirmed news that Sun Pictures has acquired the rights over ‘Singam’, which is a good news for the entire team and especially producers.

Though it has been rumored that the film Sura which has Vijay in the lead is the remake of the Malayalam film Chotta Mumbai, the fact is that director S P Rajkumar has taken only one portion for the inspiration touch. Thamanna dons the role of a bubbly college girl and is the love interest of Vijay. It is guaranteed that Vijay will be rocking in the dance sequences. There are racy stunt scenes where Vijay fights with four villains which will bring you to the edge of your seat. The Telugu Magadheera villain poses a big challenge for Vijay in Sura. There are strong dialogues in this film which might provoke the politicians. Because of this these dialogues are being reshot. There will be no dearth for sensations.
OK. Now what is the story of Sura. Vijay like the MGR in Padagotti gets friendly with fishermen folks and begins his game. He is like a God to the fishing hamlets. He is fondly called Sura. When all are happy comes a silent tsunami in the form of smuggler big wig like Velu Naiker in Nayagan. He plans to curb the fishing hamlet lands in order to run his business smoothly. He tries to cheat the poor fishermen folk by saying that a big factory is going to come up in that area and promises to give lands in compensation. The news goes to Sura that these poor fishermen have been cheated. Now Vijay starts the hunting and the fisherman gets their justice, peace and happiness.
Since most of the story is happening in the sea, the shooting of the film took place in Pondicherry, Kerala and Thoothukudi. Nan Pura Illaada Sura ( I am not a dove but I am a shark) is the punch dialogue of Vijay in this film. Most of the stunt scenes have been shot in mid sea and in spite of his sea sickness, Vijay has excelled in the stunts scenes. As usual Vaali has penned the lyrics for the opening song and Kabilan has written a lyric which depicts Vijay’s personality and his ideals.

Aattanayagan Audio Launch Videos, Stills
Lakshmi Movie Maker’s 27th production Aatanayagan – Man of the Match had a glitzy audio launch at the Sathyam cinemas today (March 17) morning.
This is the fourth film of hero Shakthi, son of director P Vasu. The function was attended by the who’s who of Kollywood including KS Ravikumar, Vikraman, Rama Narayana, Sivasakthi Pandian, Anbalaya Prabakaran, Abirami Ramanathan, Kalaipuli Sekar, Paneerselvam, Sibi, Prasanna, Radhika, Bhagyaraj, Hansraj Saxena, AC Shanmugam, L Suresh, Kastoori Raja, VC Guhanathan, Pyramid Saimira Saminathan and others. Heroine Ramya Nambeesan was also present along with Aditya who plays the hero’s brother and an important role in the film.
The film is directed by debutant Krishna Raam who has assisted KS Ravikumar and Vikraman before.Srikanth Deva has done the music for this action film. “I am happy to be doing a complete action film. The director seems to be more of Dharini’s assistant in the way he has handled the action in this film,” says Shakthi. Ramya plays a village and city girl while Meera Vasudevan plays her sister and Adhitya’s wife. Nasser, Santhanam and Sachu bring up the cast.
The producers K Murlidharan and V Swaminathan played the perfect hosts as Rama Narayanan released the audio received by Hansraj Saxena. According to Aditya who has films like Billa to his credit, “Shakthi and I play brothers and our chemistry has really worked out well to the advantage of the film.”
Abirami Ramanathan in his speech appealed to K Murlidharan to give up talk of retiring from production, a sentiment re-iterated by members on the dais. “The LMM banner stands for largest movie makers also,” he quipped. “Its one production house that gave us films even when prospects were low in the industry and kept the industry going.”
Kastoori Raja praised the producers saying, “They are known to keep no dues to anyone and are very systematic in their approach.’
Shakti came in for praise from all as well. Said Kastoori Raja, “Shakti has the same spirit and energy as his father P Vasu” while Bhagyraja remarked, “The film may be late but it’s the latest for Shakti.”
Vikraman praised his former assistant Krishna Raam saying, “A good assistant should be hardworking, genuine and have a good story sense. Krishna Raam has all three pre requisites and I am sure this film will do well and like Sachin scored a double century against South Africa this Aatanayan too will be the real man of the match.”

Narain is back after a long break of two years in Thambikottai, which is nearing completion. The film also has Meena playing Narain’s sister and the shooting is currently going on in Chennai.
The film is an action, comedy and romance one, featuring the building of a bridge in the town of Thambikottai. The bridge set was reportedly built at a cost of around one crore. One of the highlights is the presence of 20 artists in the film and according to Ammu Ramesh, these characters will keep changing after every two reels giving a variety and pace to the film. The actors include Sangeetha in a negative role, Prabhu, Sitara, MS Bhasker, Manobala, Sriranjini, Santhanam and others.
More than fifty days of shooting are over and another 20 days are left. All songs have been shot in and around Tamilnadu but the unit plans to shoot one song in Kulu Manali soon. The music is by D Imman. A majority of the film was shot in Pudukottai and Tanjore apart from the harbour area, Chengalpattu and Kondrathur in and around Chennai.

Supreme Sundar has choreographed six fights with a crucial one being shot on the bridge set using a 35 mm photosonic camera. “This was used at a hiring cost of Rs 1.5 lakhs per day but is useful in capturing the freezing water effect during the fight scenes,” says Ramesh.
Says Narain: “I was unable to take up new projects since Pookadai Ravi was stuck for some time. But now I am glad to be back to work. It’s a great experience to work with seniors like Prabhu, Meena and others in the unit”.

Kacheri Aarambam Review, Kacheri Aarambam Movie Review
The ‘commercial’ never goes out of vogue and Kacheri Aarambam is out to prove that. Jiiva is coming out with yet another no-holds-barred entertainer, the kind he took up since 2008, starting with Thenavattu and followed up with SMS in 2009. We don’t know if he has left the hard-hitting offbeat genre behind him, but let us not discuss that now; let’s enjoy the ‘Kacheri ’ that is on offer.
R.B. Choudhary and Super Good Films are names associated with neat and clean family entertainers. But, this time, a different route has been chosen in the form of Kacheri Aarambam. It will be a departure of sorts for the production house from familiar territory.
Starring Jiiva and Poonam Bajwa (coming together after Thenavattu), the movie is, as the trailers would have suggested already, an unapologetic entertainer with all commercial ingredients. There is going to be loads of fun on screen. And, that is as much as the director Thiraivanna was willing to reveal. J.D. Chakravarthy, the understated and stone-faced
villain from Sarvvam, will be playing the lead antagonist in the movie. This time, he won’t be calm, quiet and menacing; he will be outspoken, loud and impulsive, like a true Kollywood commercial villain. It will be interesting to see how this kind of a role suits him.

R.B. Choudhary and Super Good Films are names associated with neat and clean family entertainers. But, this time, a different route has been chosen in the form of Kacheri Aarambam. It will be a departure of sorts for the production house from familiar territory.
Starring Jiiva and Poonam Bajwa (coming together after Thenavattu), the movie is, as the trailers would have suggested already, an unapologetic entertainer with all commercial ingredients. Director T P Gajendran and director-actor Santhanabharathi, the judges of the Cinthol Sarma Padhukappu Sawal, chose Vidya, a college student from Coimbatore to star with Ramya Krishnan in the Thangam mega serial that is being aired by Sun TV.
Sixteen contestants participated in various competitions including short skits, dance and songs. The final three contestants were Vidya, Shwetha and Mahalakshmi. The judges said the final decision was a tough one as all the three performed well.
Speaking at the event, Ramya said, “In my view every one of the 16 here is a winner who can take pride in having done an honest and sincere job backed up by the help of the family members.”

Director Thiru blames Namitha
The director of Namitha’s Azhagana Ponnuthan Thiru is fuming and blaming the actress for the film’s fiasco at the box-office.
Says a peeved Thiru: “ Namitha refused to cooperate with the making of Azhagana Ponnuthan She has distanced herself from the film and not given any time for the promotions. Please note she has gone out of her way to promote her earlier films like Nil Gavani Ennai Kadhali, Indira Vizha and even films of others. But not this film!
Earlier she had complained that she was afraid of me and did not give me dates for a crucial climax scene. It’s with great difficulty that I shot the film in the 25 days call sheet we got from her”.
The director goes on to say that the film’s planned length was 2 hours and 25 minutes but he could hardly shoot only two hours. A song and a crucial climax scene where the hero returns and escorts her back could not be shot due to her non cooperation, thereby changing the story!

Asin’s tete-a-tete with James Cameron
Asin is all smiles as she is been flooded with calls from her friends in the industry after she gave that inspiring speech at “Youth Forum of the India Today Conclave 2010” in New Delhi on the topic 'Change: Idealism vs Reality'.
She said: “Everyone is a commodity, exactly replaced by the next talented non-name. If a formula works, then it’s flogged to death, new ideas are dammed. Mediocre products will continue to be made unless someone stands up and says- I will not do it, and then be prepared for a fall out- which in the case of an actor I can say is lesser endorsements, lesser PR, lesser visibility and so called "industry friends".
Asin is also proud of the fact that she is the only Indian actress to have met the internationally acclaimed Oscar winning Avatar director James Cameron at the conclave and later for a discussion on movies in the evening followed by dinner. It was Aamir Khan’s birthday and a huge chocolate cake was cut.

The film has Malayalam actress Ramya Nambeesan, who made her debut with ‘Raman Thediya Seethai’ starring opposite Sakthi in female lead.
The musical launch will take place tomorrow at Sathyam Cinemas in the morning with Tamil Film Producers Council President Ramanarayanan and Hansraj Saxena of Sun Pictures releasing the songs.
Actor Sarath Kumar, P. Vasu, Vikraman, K.S. Ravikumar and executive board members of TFPC, Directors’ association and Distribution union will grace over the occasion.
‘Aattanayagan’ is produced by Lakshmi Movie Makers and is directed by Krishna Ram.

Sura Punch dialogues
Vijay and 'punch dialogues' have become two sides of a coin. His 50th film 'Sura', directed by S P Rajakumar of 'En Purushan Kuzhandhai Madhiri' and 'Azhagar Malai' fame, too have a handful of 'powerful one liners', we learn.
If reports are to be believed, in one of the punch dialogues the actor utters in the movie is, 'Samadhanama poga nan pura illa da...Sura' which, if roughly translated, means 'I am not a dove to prefer peace, I am a shark'."
'Sura' has many other similar one liners, sources say. Vijay plays a fisherman in the film which is being shot in Puducherry, Visakhapatnam and Cochin.
Vadivelu is taking care of the comedy part while Tamannah plays a college student who falls for Vijay. Produced by Sangili Murugan (the producer of 'Kadhalukku Mariyadhai'), 'Sura' will be released by Sun Pictures.
