TN film producers elections held amid high drama

Chennai (PTI): Amid high drama, a team lead by film director Ramanarayan won the Tamil Film Producers’ Council elections held here on Sunday.

Of the total 532 votes polled, Ramanarayanan bagged 394 votes against his rival Panchu Arunachalam, a veteran producer, who could get only 138 votes.

Both S A Chandrasekar and Anbalaya Prabakaran from the Ramanarayanan group were elected as vice presidents.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed in the morning at the Film Chamber venue where the election was conducted.

Various film personalities, including Actor-Politician Sarathkumar, Vijay Kanth, Actor Sathya Raj, S Ve Shekar and Actress Kushboo descended to the venue to cast their votes.

However, tension gripped the area actress Radhika, who backed the Panchu Arunachalam team, entred into heated arguments with her rival candidate Balu against some remarks made by him.

Along with 100 police officials, a special team headed by Joint Commissioner Lakshmi and Assistant Commissioners Krishnamurthy and Murali was formed to defuse the tension.

The TEPC, which goes to polls every two years, is the most powerful of various film associations. TEPC is seen as the apex association that has almost the final say in matters pertaining to the Tamil film industry.
