Temporary truce in Kollywood

A temporary truce has been brought out after a meeting of various unions of Tamil film industry met on Saturday (Feb 20) to sort out the aftermath of Ajith’s controversial speech at a function organised to felicitate Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

The meeting chaired by Tamil Film Producers Council president Rama Narayanan, FEFSI president V C Guhanathan, Nadigar Sangam general secretary Radha Ravi, R K Selvamani from Tamil Film Directors Association and representatives of film distributors association, exhibitors and theatre owners association demanded an unconditional apology from Ajith. They also condemned Rajinikanth’s statements on the issue.

Meanwhile Ajith and Rajinikanth kept their cool and refused to make any apology. In an interview to an English newspaper, Ajith struck to what he had said in his speech.

Expanding on the comments made at a function, the actor made it clear: “Let stars choose what causes they want to endorse without making it an issue of loyalty to the state or country,”

The Saturday film industry meeting has temporarily put the “Ajith issue” on the backburner. They requested artistes and associations not to talk to media over the issue and vitiate the matter further.
